Two days ago, I received an amazing email from YES Abroad telling me that I’d been accepted to their program. I’ll be spending the next year in Rabat, Morocco on a complete scholarship! Here’s some background on the program:
It’s a State Department-sponsored program that sends 65 US high school students to 13 predominantly Muslim countries around the world each year. The countries are: Bosnia, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco (!), Oman, the Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia, and Turkey. The program exists to increase cross-cultural communication and understanding. You can read more about it and find out how to apply at their website, http://yes-abroad.org/
I was selected, along with 120 other semi-finalists, to go to Washington, D.C. and interview for the scholarship at the In-Person Selection Event (IPSE). I went in March and just found out that I was selected as a finalist! I’ll be going to Rabat, Morocco along with 5 other amazing high school students to live with a host family, study in a French school, and learn how to be Moroccan. You can find more background on me on the about page.
Welcome to my blog and to my adventure!
